Belt Progress & Advancement
Our style offers a systematic method of student development and progress measured by colored belts. Martial Arts and Fitness Centre. M.A.F.C.'s instructors will guide the willing student through the intense training required to achieve the rank of "black belt."
Please Note: All Students must participate in a Pre-Grading to assess whether they are ready to take formal Gradings.
All Students who are elegible for gradings must have a valid Licence and Insurance and an Association training suit relevant to their Martial Art.

Pattern CHON JI (19 Movements)
Chon ji means literally the "Heaven and Earth". It is in the orient interpreted as the creation of the world or the beginning of human history. Therefore it is the initial pattern played by the beginner. This Pattern consists of two equal parts, one to represent Heaven and the other the Earth

Pattern DAN GUN (21 Movements)
Dan Gun is named after the holy Dan Gun legendary founder of Korea in the year 2333BC.

Pattern DO SAN (24 Movements)
Do San is the pseudonym of the patriot Ahn Ch'ang Ho (1876 - 1938) who devoted his entire life to the further education of Korea and it's independent movement.

PATTERN WON HYO (28 Movements).
Won-Hyo was the monk who introduced Buddhism to the Silla Dynasty in the year 686A.D.

PATTERN YUL GOK (38 Movements) Yul Gok is the pseudonym of the great philosopher and scholar Yi I (1536-1584AD), nicknamed the "Confucius of Korea". The 38 movements of this pattern refer to his birthplace on a 38 degree lattitude and the diagram represents "Scolar".

1. Turning Kick.
2. Knife Hand.

Pattern JOON GUN (32 Movements).
Joon Gun is named after the patriot An Joon Gun who assasinated Hiro bumi Ito, the first Japanese governor-general oof Korea, Known as the man who played the leading part in the Korea-Japan merger. The 32 Movements of this pattern refer to Mr. An's age when he was executed in Lui Shung prison in 1910.

Adult students (over 16yrs) will also be asked to break boards using
1. Reverse Turning kick.
2. Elbow.

PATTERN TOI GYE (37 Movements).
Toi Gye is the pen name of the noted scholar Yi Hwang (16th century A.D), an authority on neo-confusianism. The 37 movements of this pattern refer to his birthplace on a 37 degree lattitude and the diagram represents "scholar".

PATTERN HWA-RANG (29 Movements)
Hwa-rang is named after the Hwa-rang youth group which originated in the Silla Dynasty about 1350 years ago. This group eventually became the actual driving force for unification of the three kingdoms of Korea. The 29 movements refer to the 29th Infantry division, where Taekwon-do developed into maturity.

PATTERN CHOONG-MOO (30 Movements).
Choong-Moo was the name given to the great Admiral Yi Sin of the Yi Dynasty. He was reputed to have invented the first armoured battleship (Kobukson), which was the precursor to the present day submarine, in 1592A.D. The reason why this pattern ends with a left hand attack is to symbolise his regrettable death, having no chance to show his unrestrained potentiality checked by the forced reservation of his loyalty to the king.
